If you think that you might want to try Linux or Be, or if you have a slower less than a P CPU, go with an external or internal non-winmodem. If they don’t know, get it elsewhere.
People seem to like the 3Com “Gamer’s Modem”, which is an internal modem, but is hardware not winmodem.
